Spotlight on CPXians Giving Back

Screen Shot 2016-02-02 at 11.19.54 AMThis month we are featuring our own Maria Laino, Sr. Publisher Development Manager for bRealTime, who will be traveling to Madagascar and proving entrepreneurial support and training for locals in the capital city of Antananarivo.

Across Africa, and specifically in Madagascar, micro, small and medium-size enterprises (“MSME’s”) represent more than 95% of all businesses, and employ more than half the working population generating more than half of all economic output.  While the development and growth of MSME’s offer the clearest path toward a brighter economic future, the average person in Madagascar lives on less than two dollars a day, and faces considerable hurdles to operating a successful business, including the lack of skills and training, access to capital, and even electricity.

Maria Laino, Sr. Publisher Development Manager-bRealTime, a division of CPXi, will be traveling for the second year in a row to Madagascar from August 5th to 17th. She along with a team will be teaching business and finance skills to locals who want to be entrepreneurs or who currently run a small business.

“Our goal is to equip locals in Madagascar’s capital city, Antananarivo, with the basic knowledge of how to start and run successful businesses, and then provide them with the means to put their ideas into action through the creation of a seed capital program”, said Laino.

Maria will be traveling with seven other people who have a diverse set of skills and experiences. They will present and train through topics such as idea generation, business planning, formation, leadership, marketing, and finance. What the team hopes most to get out of this trip is to provide valuable lessons and tools, empowering entrepreneurs to feel prepared and confident in starting a new business, job, and/or other opportunities within their community.
